The Brief

A youth talent competition that needed a website as theatrical as the event itself.

Stagebound is a Wigan-based youth talent competition launching Summer 2027. It’s designed to give young singers, dancers, musicians, and performers a serious competitive stage in the local area — backed by regional sponsors and built around a professional event infrastructure.

The brief had two distinct layers. The public-facing site needed to be visually striking enough to capture the imagination of young performers and their families — bold, energetic, and unmistakably theatrical. The commercial layer needed to convert sponsors: a clear tiered pack, an enquiry system that pre-qualifies by tier, and admin tools the organising team could manage without developer involvement.

Underneath both sat a genuine event management requirement: internal planner CPTs to schedule acts, manage logistics, and track the competition timeline. The full build — public site, sponsorship infrastructure, admin panel, and planner — was delivered as a single bespoke WordPress theme with no page builders and no third-party event plugin dependency.

Our Approach

Five build decisions that shaped the final site.

Every Mako Digital build follows a documented approach — consistent across every project, calibrated to each client’s industry, brand, and audience.

01

A brand identity built for the stage

Stagebound needed to feel as exciting as the event itself — bold, youthful, and unmistakably theatrical. We locked a four-colour brand palette (deep royal blue, electric pink, dark navy, and competition red) and paired it with an animated shader background that shifts and breathes behind the content. The result is a site that feels alive before a single piece of content loads. Every typographic and colour decision was made with one audience in mind: young performers, their families, and the sponsors who want to be associated with them.

02

Scroll-driven parallax as the core visual mechanic

Rather than relying on standard page layouts, we built a bespoke scroll-driven parallax glide system from scratch. Sections and elements move at different rates as the visitor scrolls, creating depth and theatrical drama without heavy JavaScript frameworks. The system is lightweight, fully responsive, and degrades gracefully on devices that can’t support it — important for a youth-focused audience browsing on a wide range of phones.

03

Sponsorship infrastructure built to convert

Stagebound is a commercially-driven event and sponsorship revenue is critical. We built a complete sponsorship system into the theme: a tiered pack (Headline £10k, Gold £5k, Silver £2.5k, Bronze £1k, Event £250–500), a sponsor CRUD dashboard behind a password-gated /manage admin panel, and an interest form backend that captures enquiries with the relevant tier pre-selected. Sponsors can be managed, updated, and displayed without touching the codebase.

04

Internal planner and event management CPTs

Behind the public-facing site sits a custom post type system built around Stagebound’s internal planning needs. The planner CPTs allow the organising team to schedule acts, manage event logistics, and track the competition timeline — all within WordPress, all under their own control. No third-party event plugin, no SaaS subscription, no data leaving the platform.

05

Built to own, built to grow

Stagebound launches Summer 2027 and the build was scoped with that runway in mind. The theme is structured so that new sections, competition categories, and performer profiles can be added without rewrites. Self-hosted on Hostinger, custom theme, no page builders, no proprietary CMS lock-in — the organising team owns it outright and can evolve it as the competition grows year-on-year.

FAQs

Common questions about the Stagebound build.

What is Stagebound?

Stagebound is a Wigan-based youth talent competition launching in Summer 2027. It is designed to give young performers — singers, dancers, musicians, and entertainers — a competitive stage in the local area, backed by regional sponsors and organised through a bespoke digital platform built by Mako Digital.

What does the Stagebound website include?

The site is a fully bespoke WordPress build — animated shader background, scroll-driven parallax glide system, a tiered sponsorship section with full enquiry backend, an internal planner using custom post types, and a password-gated /manage dashboard with full sponsor CRUD functionality. No page builder, no template, no third-party event plugin.

Why does a talent competition need a custom-built website?

Because off-the-shelf event platforms are built for generic events — they don’t support the commercial sponsorship infrastructure a competition like Stagebound requires, or give the brand the visual identity it needs to attract young performers and serious sponsors. A bespoke build means the site looks the part, works the way the business actually runs, and is owned outright without ongoing SaaS fees.

How does the sponsorship system work?

There are five tiers: Headline (£10,000), Gold (£5,000), Silver (£2,500), Bronze (£1,000), and Event (£250–£500). An interest form on the site captures enquiries with the relevant tier pre-selected. Behind a password-gated admin panel at /manage, the organising team can create, update, and manage sponsor entries directly — no developer involvement required for day-to-day sponsor management.

What is the scroll-driven parallax glide system?

It’s a custom JavaScript system built specifically for Stagebound that moves page elements at different speeds as the visitor scrolls, creating theatrical depth and visual layering. It was built from scratch rather than using a library, so it’s lightweight, fully responsive, and tuned exactly to the brand’s visual requirements.

Can Mako Digital build websites for other events and competitions?

Yes. The Stagebound build demonstrates exactly what we deliver for event-led organisations — bespoke theme, commercial infrastructure (ticketing, sponsorship, enquiry capture), custom admin tools, and a brand identity that stands on its own. Get in touch to discuss your event.
