The Brief

A leisure & hospitality that needed a website to match the work.

OV Group is a Wigan-based leisure and hospitality company founded in March 2021, operating across four distinct business areas: OV Inns & Taverns — a managed pub estate in partnership with Admiral Taverns; OV Lettings — residential property lettings; OV EPOS — point of sale technology for the hospitality sector; and OV Management Consultants — business consultancy for hospitality operators.

The challenge was building a website that gave each division its own clear presence without fragmenting the brand — a site that could showcase the atmosphere of a pub venue in one section, list residential properties in another, and present professional B2B services in a third, all under one coherent identity.

On top of that, the venue pages for Lady Mabels Bar needed to work harder than a typical business page — dark, atmospheric, visual — while still being fast, mobile-first, and properly structured for search.

Our Approach

Five build decisions that shaped the final site.

Every Mako Digital build follows a documented approach — consistent across every project, calibrated to each client’s industry, brand, and customer journey.

01

Multi-division architecture under one coherent brand

Four very different business areas, one cohesive site. We structured the site as a parent corporate identity with four clearly defined divisions, each with its own dedicated section, branding nuance, and content depth. The OV brand identity threads through every division — consistent typography, consistent colour system, consistent navigation pattern — while each division is allowed to express itself appropriately to its audience.

02

Lady Mabels Bar gets the atmospheric treatment

The venue pages needed to feel like the pub itself — dark, atmospheric, visual. Heavy photography, rich typography, mood-led colour palette. The Lady Mabels Bar pages read like a destination microsite while still being structurally part of the OV Group site. Customers researching the venue get a real sense of the place before they walk through the door.

03

Careers system, blog, and venue gallery

The site supports active operations — not just a static brochure. Careers system for the pub estate (CV submissions to the operations inbox), blog admin for ongoing content publishing, venue galleries that update as new sites are added to the estate, and a contact routing system that directs enquiries to the right division automatically.

04

Compliance built-in, not bolted-on

Privacy and terms pages compliant with UK GDPR, cookie consent banner with proper category-based controls, and full accessibility considerations. For a hospitality group with consumer-facing venues and a lettings division handling personal data, compliance can't be an afterthought. The site ships with all of it baked in from the start.

05

A platform OV Group operate themselves

Hosted on Hostinger, built on WordPress, no proprietary platform. The OV team operate the site themselves day-to-day — new venue pages, blog updates, careers postings — without coming back to the agency for routine changes. Mako Digital remains available for major updates and feature additions; the day-to-day operation belongs to OV Group.

FAQs

Common questions about the OV Group build.

How much does a multi-division corporate website like OV Group cost?

Multi-division corporate sites at Mako Digital are scoped per-project. The OV Group build with four distinct divisions, atmospheric venue pages, careers system, and blog admin sat in our higher-tier pricing — typically £999+ for builds at this scope. Custom builds are quoted individually based on the number of divisions, depth of each division, and any active systems required.

How long did the OV Group build take?

Five weeks from brief to live. Multi-division builds take longer than standard 5-page sites because each division needs its own content, structure, schema, and visual treatment. Five weeks reflects properly individualised divisions, not duplicated templates.

Why use WordPress for a corporate hospitality group?

Self-hosted, fully owned, complete editorial control. As OV Group adds new venues to the pub estate, posts new lettings, or publishes new consultancy content, the team can do it themselves through the WordPress admin without coming back to the agency. Pay-monthly platforms would lock the group into perpetual subscription fees and limit how the site can evolve.

How does the multi-division architecture actually work?

Each division has its own dedicated section of the site, with its own colour treatment, content structure, and call-to-action targets. The shared OV brand identity (typography, navigation, footer) threads through every division so the user always knows they're on the same site. Behind the scenes, each division's pages use a shared theme with division-specific page templates — one codebase, four distinct presentations.

Can the site handle adding new venues to the pub estate?

Yes — venue pages are built as a custom post type with a structured template. Adding a new venue takes ten minutes through the WordPress admin: name, address, photography, opening hours, menu highlights, and the venue automatically appears in the venue gallery and gets its own URL. No developer required for routine additions.

Does Mako Digital build for other hospitality businesses?

Yes — pubs, restaurants, hotels, bars, event venues, and catering businesses across Wigan and the North West. The OV Group build is the worked example for multi-division operations; for single-venue hospitality businesses we typically work in our 5-page or one-page tiers. See Web Design for Hospitality Wigan for the service breakdown.

Where else does Mako Digital build websites in Wigan?

Across Wigan borough and the wider North West. The cluster network covers 19 towns — see the full coverage map at /web-design-near-me/. Other recent builds include OV Group (Wigan), B-Energy Electrical (Wigan), and Whittles Bakery (Pemberton).

Is OV Group a real Wigan business?

Yes. OV Group is a Wigan-based leisure and hospitality company founded in March 2021. Visit ovg.org.uk to see the live site — including the full Lady Mabels Bar venue pages.
