The Brief

A builder who wanted a website that didn’t look like every other builder.

CH Build Group are premium builders run by Lee and Rob, based in Wigan and working UK-wide. They cover the full range — extensions and new builds, UPVC windows and doors, loft and garage conversions, full house renovations, garden rooms, and domestic and commercial building works.

The brief was clear from the first message: “the better you make it look the happier we are” and crucially, “a different style rather than just bog standard.” They didn’t want the usual builder website — the stock hard-hat hero, the identikit service grid, the Checkatrade aesthetic. They wanted something that signalled quality and confidence the moment it loaded.

We answered with a brutalist, architectural design language — black, gold and white, Fraunces and Inter typography, oversized numerals, hard grid lines, and a services section laid out like a technical spec sheet rather than a card grid. Premium property brochure energy, applied to a builder. Five pages, mobile-first, schema baked in from day one, with a secure enquiry form built straight into the theme.

Our Approach

Five build decisions that shaped the CH Build Group site.

Every Mako Digital build follows a documented approach — consistent across every project, calibrated to each client’s industry, brand, and customer journey.

01

Brutalist, not bog-standard

Most builder websites look the same — a stock photo of a hard hat, a grid of service cards, a contact form. We deliberately went the other way. CH Build Group got a brutalist, architectural design language: oversized numerals, hard grid lines, generous whitespace, and a black-and-gold palette that reads like a premium property brochure rather than a Checkatrade listing. The brief was “different rather than bog standard” — so the whole site is built to feel structural and confident.

02

Services as a spec sheet, not a softplay grid

All six services — extensions & new builds, UPVC windows & doors, loft & garage conversions, full house renovations, garden rooms, and domestic & commercial building works — live on a single pillar page laid out like a technical specification. Each one is a numbered block (01 to 06) with anchor links from the home page. It keeps the site tight, easy for Lee and Rob to manage, and ready to split into individual service pages when the SEO calls for it.

03

Editorial typography that elevates the trade

Fraunces serif for the display headlines, Inter for the body. The combination gives CH Build Group a high-end editorial feel — the same energy you’d expect from a luxury developer, applied to a builder. Gold rule lines act as dividers, content blocks sit asymmetrically, and the typographic hierarchy does the heavy lifting so the site looks expensive without relying on stock photography.

04

Schema baked in from day one

GeneralContractor schema declares CH Build Group’s identity properly, with each of the six services nested as Service entities, a LocalBusiness block carrying the area served, and FAQPage markup on the contact page for Google rich results. The whole graph was built into the templates from the first page — not bolted on afterwards — so the site was crawl-ready the moment it went live.

05

A secure enquiry form that actually protects the inbox

The contact form runs WordPress nonce verification, a hidden honeypot field, and a time-trap that silently catches bots submitting in under three seconds. Genuine enquiries land in Rob’s inbox as a cleanly formatted email with reply-to set to the enquirer, while the sender gets a branded auto-responder signed “Lee & Rob.” No third-party form plugin, no spam, fully owned.

CH Build Group are premium builders run by Lee and Rob, based in Wigan and working UK-wide. They cover extensions and new builds, UPVC windows and doors, loft and garage conversions, full house renovations, garden rooms, and domestic and commercial building works. What kind of website did Mako Digital build for CH Build Group?

A bespoke, hand-coded WordPress site with a brutalist, architectural design language — black, gold and white, Fraunces and Inter typography, and a spec-sheet service layout. Five pages (Home, About, Services, Projects, Contact) plus a privacy policy, all built mobile-first with schema baked in and a secure enquiry form. No page builders, no templates — custom PHP throughout.

Why does a builder need a website that looks this different?

Most builder websites look identical — the same stock hard-hat imagery and card grids. CH Build Group wanted to stand apart and signal quality. The brutalist, editorial design positions them as a premium operator rather than a lad-with-a-van, which matters when you’re quoting on high-value extensions, new builds, and commercial work. Design is a credibility signal before a single word is read.

How much does a builder website like this cost?

A bespoke five-page WordPress build with custom design, full schema, and a secure enquiry form sits in our standard project range — from £449.99 fixed for a five-page site, with custom multi-page builds from £749. All prices are agreed before work starts. See our builder web design page for the full breakdown.

Do you build websites for other trades and builders?

Yes — builders, electricians, plumbers, joiners, roofers and other trades across Wigan and the North West. The CH Build Group site is the worked example of how we approach a premium builder brand. Same hand-coded WordPress approach, schema baked in, fast on mobile, and fully owned by the client. See web design for tradesmen in Wigan.

Is the enquiry form secure and spam-protected?

Genuine enquiries are emailed to CH Build Group with reply-to set to the enquirer, and the sender receives a branded auto-responder. No third-party form plugin, no spam.
