Website getting visitors but no enquiries?

How to find where the process breaks down, from search results to paying customers, before you spend more on traffic.

The short answer

If your website gets visitors but few enquiries, common causes include attracting the wrong searches, pages that don't answer what visitors need, or friction when someone tries to get in touch. Sometimes the enquiries are happening but aren't being measured properly. The first step is to identify where the process breaks down before paying for more traffic.

The whole journey

Five stages, five different questions.

Strong search visibility doesn't automatically mean more paying customers. Each stage can break on its own, so it helps to know which one you're looking at.

  1. Search visibilityDo you appear for the searches your customers make?
  2. Website visitsDo those searches turn into people on your site?
  3. EnquiriesDo visitors call, email or fill in a form?
  4. Qualified leadsAre the enquiries the right kind of work?
  5. CustomersDo qualified leads become paying customers?

Impressions aren't visitors

In Google Search Console, an impression means your page appeared in results. It doesn't mean anyone clicked.

Clicks and sessions differ

Search Console clicks and Google Analytics sessions are measured differently, so they won't match exactly. Google explains why.

A form isn't a customer

A form submission is an enquiry, not necessarily a qualified lead. Spam and the wrong kind of work count too, unless you check.

Diagnosis

Find the stage that's breaking.

Work through these in order. The first one is the most often skipped: without it, you're guessing at the rest.

  1. Are enquiries actually measured?

Check that form submissions, phone-number clicks and email clicks are tracked as key events in Google Analytics, and that calls from the website can be told apart from other calls. If they aren't, "no enquiries" may really mean "no measurement".

Check: your GA4 key events list, and a test enquiry of your own.

  2. Is it the right traffic?

Look at the searches bringing people in. Visitors from information searches ("what is…"), the wrong area or your own brand name behave differently from people ready to buy a service near them.

Check: the queries and pages in the Search Console performance report.

  3. Does the landing page do its job?

Visitors should land on a page that matches what they searched for: the right service, the right area, a clear answer, and signs of what it costs or how it works.

Check: which pages get the visits, and whether each one answers the search that brought people there.

  4. Is there enough trust?

People enquire when they're confident you're real and good at the job: reviews, real contact details, examples of work and a clear explanation of who you are.

Check: your key pages through a stranger's eyes. Would you get in touch?

  5. Is there friction?

Long forms, slow pages on mobile, a hidden phone number or an unclear next step all stop enquiries that would otherwise happen.

Check: try to contact yourself on a phone, start to finish.

  6. What happens after they enquire?

Some "no enquiries" problems are really follow-up problems: slow replies, missed calls or enquiries landing in an inbox nobody checks.

Check: how quickly each recent enquiry got a reply, and where they arrive.

Rankings but no enquiries

When ranking isn't the problem.

Ranking for terms nobody buys from

Some rankings bring visibility but not buyers, such as broad information searches or the wrong locations.

Impressions without clicks

Appearing but not being chosen can come from position, or from titles and descriptions that don't give searchers a reason to click.

Clicks without contact

If people arrive but don't get in touch, go back to the landing page, trust and friction checks above.

Our process

How we'd investigate it on your site.

  1. Access and a baseline

Read-only access to your Search Console and Analytics, and a record of where things stand today.

  2. Trace the journey

From the searches that bring people in, to the pages they land on, to the way they'd get in touch. We send a test enquiry ourselves.

  3. Write it up as tasks

Each problem becomes a referenced task with a priority and an owner, so nothing gets lost.

  4. Fix, then re-check

We agree the fixes with you, then check each one on the live site the following month.

How we help

Diagnosis first, then the right fix.

We look at where your process breaks down, then recommend the work that fits: targeting and pages, website and conversion improvements, tracking, or a mix.

  • Lead Engine includes landing-page testing alongside new pages each month.
  • Strategic Growth includes enquiry and conversion tracking, where technically possible.
  • Website improvements can be scoped and quoted separately.

Questions to answer first

  • How many enquiries did you get last month, and how do you know?
  • Which searches and pages bring your visitors?
  • How many enquiries were the right kind of work?
  • How quickly did each one get a reply?
