The Brief

A handmade jewellery that needed a website to match the work.

Rosewater Oddities is a handmade jewellery business based in Wigan, creating colourful, quirky, one-of-a-kind pieces. They sell in person at Bygone Times in Leigh and RADCaT in Wigan, but had no online presence to showcase the collection or tell the story.

The brief was deliberately focused: a one-page site that captures the character of the brand and gives potential customers something to find when they search. Rosewater Oddities is whimsical, hand-crafted, and personal — the website needed to match that energy without falling into generic Etsy-style sameness.

No e-commerce on day one (the volume of one-of-a-kind pieces makes a static catalogue impractical), no booking system, no unnecessary complexity. Just a beautiful single-scroll site showcasing the work, telling the maker's story, listing the in-person stockists, and making it easy to get in touch about commissions or specific pieces.

Our Approach

Five build decisions that shaped the final site.

Every Mako Digital build follows a documented approach — consistent across every project, calibrated to each client’s industry, brand, and customer journey.

01

A site with personality, not generic-maker style

Independent maker websites all start to look the same — minimal, beige, Etsy-adjacent, neutral typography, white space everywhere. Rosewater Oddities is the opposite of that. The site reflects the work: colourful, characterful, quirky. The visual language matches the jewellery without trying to look like an art gallery or a corporate retailer. It's unmistakably Rosewater.

02

A one-page site that does five things well

Hero with the brand identity, an introduction to the maker and the work, a gallery showcasing recent pieces, the in-person stockist list (Bygone Times in Leigh and RADCaT in Wigan), and a contact section for commissions and enquiries. One page, five sections, every interaction the customer needs without scrolling forever. Adding more would have been complexity for the sake of a website, not for the business.

03

Photography front and centre

For a jewellery maker, the work IS the marketing. The site features Rosewater's actual pieces — not stock imagery, not generic craft photos. Each piece tells its own story; the gallery section gives them space to be seen. The design treats the photography as the primary content and lets the typography support it.

04

Built to rank for "handmade jewellery Wigan" and craft searches

JewelryStore schema (a specific LocalBusiness subtype Google recognises), proper geo-coordinates, accurate page copy mentioning the in-person stockists, and content calibrated for craft / maker / handmade jewellery searches. Visitors searching for distinctive, quirky, colourful jewellery in the Wigan area land on the right site.

05

A foundation that can grow with the business

Hosted on Hostinger, built on WordPress, owned outright. As Rosewater Oddities grows, as new collections launch, as e-commerce becomes practical, the site can scale with the business — new sections can be added, e-commerce can be integrated, and the WordPress foundation supports all of it. Today's one-page site is tomorrow's starting point, not a ceiling.

FAQs

Common questions about the Rosewater build.

How much did the Rosewater Oddities website cost?

Rosewater took our standard one-page custom WordPress build at £149.99 fixed. That includes bespoke design that captures the brand's character, full local SEO setup, JewelryStore schema markup, Google Search Console submission, and the in-person stockist integration. No add-on fees, no monthly retainer.

Why one page for a handmade jewellery business?

Because Rosewater's work is one-of-a-kind — static product pages don't fit a business model where every piece is unique. A one-page site lets the photography breathe, tells the maker's story, lists where to buy in person, and routes commission enquiries to the right inbox. Adding multi-page complexity would have been friction without value.

How long did the Rosewater build take?

One week from brief to live. One-page builds at Mako Digital typically ship in five to seven working days when the photography is ready and the brief is clear.

Why no e-commerce on day one?

Because the volume of one-of-a-kind pieces makes a static catalogue impractical. By the time a piece is photographed, listed, and indexed by Google, it might already be sold to a customer who saw it at Bygone Times. The current setup — showcase the work, list the in-person stockists, route commission enquiries — matches how the business actually operates. E-commerce can be added later if a more standardised product line emerges.

Can a one-page site rank for craft jewellery searches?

Yes — Google ranks pages, not sites. A well-built one-page site with proper JewelryStore schema, fast load speed, and content that genuinely describes the work will rank for focused craft and handmade jewellery terms. The page count doesn't determine ranking; the build quality does.

Where can I see Rosewater Oddities in person?

Rosewater Oddities sells at Bygone Times in Leigh and RADCaT in Wigan. Both stockists carry the current collection — visit either to see and buy pieces in person. For commissions or specific enquiries, the website at rosewateroddities.co.uk is the contact route.

Does Mako Digital build for other independent makers and artists?

Yes — jewellery makers, ceramicists, illustrators, woodworkers, candlemakers, and any independent craft business that needs a website to support their work without overcomplicating it. Rosewater is the worked example for one-page maker sites; for higher-volume craft retailers, we recommend the WooCommerce approach used for The Dog Outlet.

Where else does Mako Digital build websites in Wigan?

Across Wigan borough and the wider North West. The cluster network covers 19 towns — see the full coverage map at /web-design-near-me/. Other recent independent builds include Whittles Bakery (Pemberton), JS Boutique (Atherton), and The Dog Outlet (Wigan).
